Companion Animals in Retirement, Inc.

A Lifetime Animal Sanctuary
Dedicated to Helping Elders, Both Human and Animal

We are a small 501(c)(3) non-profit organization devoted to the rescue of animals in need. Our primary focus is on the elderly, both human and animal.

Our goals include:

  • To provide permanent care for companion animals whose elderly or disabled pet owner is admitted into a nursing home or assisted living facility;
  • To make pet therapy visits to the elderly or disabled owner in a nursing home or assisted living facility with their pet, thereby making the transition into such a facility a little easier for them;

And, for animals in distress or need, we shall strive to:

  • provide a home for animals that, due to advanced age, would otherwise be unadoptable or unlikely to be placed;
  • provide a home for animals that have suffered mistreatment or neglect;
  • provide permanent care, in a home environment for animals that are not adapting well to the traditional shelter environment;
Mission Statement

C.A.I.R. shall strive to enable elderly or disabled persons to keep a companion animal and enjoy the therapeutic rewards of the human-animal bond.

C.A.I.R. is an organization dedicated to rescuing, living with and adopting senior pets.  Though the focus is on older pets, this organization also includes the special needs, abused and neglected animals of all ages.  The ages may vary but the need is the same, they all need loving homes of their own.  We house, love and provide medical attention in a safe, healthy home environment to as many seniors as resources allow.  All animals taken in will remain here for the rest of their lives.

Companion Animals in Retirement, Inc. is a non-profit, charitable 501(c)(3) animal sanctuary.  As a sanctuary, we do not adopt out our cats.  They have a permanent home here and will not be rehomed or placed elsewhere.  This is an important feature of our organization.  Most of our cats will be coming from a home where they had spent most of their lives and felt secure.  We hope to be able to maintain a connection between the cats and their former owners by making pet therapy visits to the former owners.  If you have any questions or concerns, please email us at info@CompanionAnimalsInRetirement.com or drop a line at C.A.I.R., P.O.Box 72, Sherborn, MA 01770
